Kingston Nurse Sentenced To Prison For Stealing Medication

A Kingston nurse has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing medication from dying patients in the palliative care unit at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital.

30 year-old Laura Denouden will also be placed on probation for three years following her release from prison.

Denouden pleaded guilty in April to stealing hydromorphone, an opioid pain medication, from the hospital over a period of two and half years.

The case lead to changes in the way medications are stored at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital.

The Ontario College of Nurses is scheduled to make a decision before the end of the year about whether the registered nurse will be able to keep her credentials.
