The Kingston Voyageur’s look forward to there home opener Thursday night at the Invista Centre…..the Burlington Cougars will provide the opposition…
They’re all ears as head coach Taurean White discusses some strategy.
Its a much younger Vees team with only three 20 year-olds.. that’s compared to 8 last season….but its still a very quick team.
Peter Goulet/ General Manager/
“Today you have to be able to skate..if you cant skate today its tough to play this game because everybody can skate..Trenton is going to be good, Cobourg is going to be good, Wellington is always good so its a tough league but I think were going to be just fine.”
Goulet says don’t worry — the team hasn’t lost “all” of it’s veteran presence — there’s still a decent nucleus to build and grow around.
“Reid Russel is going into his 4th year..he’s our captain and were expecting big things from him this year and Reed Kekowich–Connor Cobbold, Danny Bossio and Josh Leblanc–there all veteran Junior A players and were expecting big things from those 5-guys.”
The general manager is also
pleased about the large number of home grown players to wear the red-white and blue..
“We’ve got 11-12 local kids on the team which is huge..there’s a lot of great hockey players in Kingston so there’s no reason why we can’t maintain that number and maybe add a couple more over the next couple of years so its good, we’ve got a great bunch of guys but were young, its just going to take a little longer to get things down with these guys and teach them our systems and the coaches systems and get them going.”
