Bright lights, loud music, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy. It can only mean one thing. The 186th edition of the Kingston Fall Fair is underway. Visitors can check out some of the award-winning livestock – like these dairy cows. Farmers are pulling out all the stops to get these beauties ready for Friday night’s Frontenac County “Black and White” show. There’s a lot prep work involved. Farmers choose which calves and cows will be shown weeks in advance – and start training them for the stage.

“We wash them at home a few times, we lead them around, we make sure that they’re well trained and then we come here we clip their hair up all nice and pretty, we wash them again, we wash them again tomorrow, there’s a lot of washing involved and then we actually do strut them up it’s a lot like a dog show.”
