Child pricked by used syringe in McBurney Park

Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

Kingston Police are warning the public to be on the lookout for discarded syringes after a young child pricked herself with one in a downtown park.
Police received an online complaint from the parent of the child Thursday. In it she wrote that they were playing at Mcburney Park when her child picked up a used syringe and accidentally pierced herself. The parent then noticed a number of needles lying on the ground under a tree.
The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police say she will continue to undergo more blood tests to make sure she was not infected with a communicable disease.
Police are urging parents to have discussions with their children about needle safety and not picking up used syringes.
