ODESSA – Christine Henderson is now a member of a pretty elite club.

Christine Henderson/Birthday Girl:
“Never in my wildest dream did I think I be a 100 years old.”
She was born on September 17th, 1916 in the small rural community of Griffith Ontario.
When Christine was 17 she went to a dance party on Wolfe Island and ended up meeting her future husband… it was love at first sight for the pair.
After they got married their family expanded and Christine spent her days as a homemaker as she tended to their 100 acre farm near Odessa.
Heather Senoran:
“Christine says her biggest accomplishment in life is having 4 beautiful daughters. Now she also has 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.”
“We call her the mother of us all because we all turn to her.”
That’s Jean Smith, Christine’s third child. She says she’s learned a lot of valuable life lessons from her mother.
Jean Smith/Daughter of Christine:
“I don’t want to get tears here but I would say learning to care for other people. Learning to care for family and know that it’s all about family.”
Even at her age Christine lives on her own and says she refuses to have it any other way.
Christine Henderson:
“I’ve never gone to a nursing home. I have never gone to any facility like that. I’ve always looked after my own home.”
Sandy Henderson-Todd/Christine’s Daughter:
“She really does not what to go. Right at this point, she’s doing so well, so amazing where she is.”
Christine says the secret to reaching 100 years old is simple if you follow these three steps.
Christine Henderson:
“Don’t drink. Don’t smoke. Be friends with everyone.”
With about 10 dozen guests at her birthday party it’s no surprise that Christine’s motto in life has got her to this milestone.
