KINGSTON – Kingston Penitentiary opened its doors yet again … This time for a North American wide competition. The annual North American Police Equestrian Championships took place over the weekend…  In conjunction with the 175th anniversary of Kingston Police. More than 100 riders saddled up for different events like the obstacle class — where officers and their horse must work together to weave through unique stations that mimic a day in the line of duty. Funds raised go towards united way KFL&A. Organizers estimate more than 2 thousand people were in attendance during the two day event.

Deb Wicklam/Kingston Police Mounted Unit: “Most people can relate to animals. What we like to do with the mounted unit officers both in Canada and the United States is we use them to bridge the gap between the community and the police. They’re a very effective tool.”
