KINGSTON – Tonight an open house was held to discuss the revitalization of North King’s Town. The meeting included the presentation of the draft report, preliminary market analysis and the results of the community visioning exercises. The fate of the Wellington Street extension is still undecided and won’t be until the secondary plan of North King’s Town is finalized which could happen by the end of the year. Community members had the opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns on the extension and the redevelopment of the area.
Frank Dixon/Williamsville Resident:
“I think they’re adopting a very inclusive approach. Very imaginative. We really need to do something about this area. It’s been kind of a problem child in Kingston for a number of years.”
Antonio Gomez-Palacio/Dialog Principal:
“So we’re taking a step back and it’s not ended. But we’ve heard loud and clear that there’s a strong impetus from the community no to build a big highway that crosses the neighbourhood.”
Vesla Olimer/Inner Harbour Resident:
“I’m happy to see that some changes are being made. And of course with all the betterments, I trust that no one would be foolish enough to do the Wellington Extension because that would be an absolutely useless piece of road and mess up everything else.”
