Kingston- It’s a move officials say will provide better, more integrated care for patients and families but according to a recent health care poll, over 86 percent people don’t want to see any cuts at Kingston’s three hospitals.
CUPE conducted a Kingston wide phone poll earlier this month of 700 residents who oppose cuts to Kingston hospitals.
Respondents are concerned the merger will mean cuts to patient care and programs. Worries echoed by the union representing some 1,400 members locally is trying to drum up support to stop the merger.
Thee poll showed 92 percent of respondents support hospital funding increases and few support the changes to hospitals at the local level.
“I think that if this poll is expanded the numbers would increase to people saying no we don’t want changes here. It was a small number but with these numbers it shows the Ontario government, keep your hands off our services we pay for them we want them.” explained Mike Rodrigues, the President of CUPE local 1974
