Records are made to be broken — just ask Amanda Blair of St. Lawrence College in Kingston — she established a new school record by scoring 34 points in a lop-sided rugby victory over Loyalist of Belleville, 84-0 over the weekend. Blair — a graduate of Bayside Secondary School near Trenton was just 5 points shy of setting the all-time OCAA mark.

“It’s definitely exciting — I didn’t expect to go into a game and come out that way. I don’t think our team expected to come out with the win, that’s great — but it feels really good.”
And while the 3rd year nursing student says the school record is nice — it’s a team game and without her teammates — something like this doesn’t happen.
“As a team it was nice to see all the girls get line breaks and things and those opportunities.
Aside from the score we had a lot of girls doing tackles — one girl — Courtney Brewer made 17 tackles that game so it was great.”
So as much as you’re getting the limelight — it was a total team effort.
“There was a lot of hard work, yeah.”
As for this year’s squad — Blair like what she sees.
“Everybody’s so close on our team — we all get along very well and we just naturally have that clicking aspect this year.
When a team is tight — that’s important?
“Yeah it definitely makes a difference.”
