KINGSTON – RMC graduate, Peter Holt spent his entire career at the college — he rose to the rank of General with the Royal Canadian Electrical Engineers. Now — he’s giving back by being one of the 17 crew members aboard the “Chasse-Galerie 2016″.
Peter Holt/ Crew Member:
“It just feels right to give back and do something that benefits future generations. I only hope they have as good of career as I have.”
The 32 foot long canoe travelled more than 200 kilometres on the Rideau Canal… starting in Ottawa last week.
The 6 day fundraising trip ended here at RMC — with a salute from the Kingston Commandant.
Peter Holt:
“But it was a good trip all the way along. Lots of hard work. A few blisters but who cares.”
Heather Senoran:
“This is the fifth fundraiser of its kind since the year 2000. So far these expeditions have raised almost 400 thousand dollars in support of RMC’s Danny Mcleod Athletic Endorsement Fund.”
All of the crew members are RMC grads and current officer cadets from Kingston and Saint Jean, Quebec.
They say their time at the college has shaped who they are today.
Helga Grodzinski/Crew Member:
“So for the successes that we’ve achieved and for the friendships we have made and maintained over all these years — we have the college to thank for that.”
And with this year’s fundraising efforts surpassing the goal of 150 thousand dollars — the crews ‘thank you’ to the college is heard loud and clear.
