Just 24 hours ago, the scene at either end of Vanluven Road in South Frontenac was much different.
Pylons and a road closure sign shut down the road for most of the day.
The Ontario Fire Marshal and OPP Forensic Identification Unit remained on scene until shortly after 6 o’clock Tuesday.
Their investigation began much earlier in the day.
Const. Roop Sandhu: “Frontenac OPP received a call from a female that had fled her residence on Vanluven and came to the police station to report an altercation she had with her ex-spouse.”
But police were called to the same address a short time later for a second time – this time for a house fire, allegedly started by the man involved in the previous altercation.
Const. Roop Sandhu: “The investigation determined that it’s suspected that he is the one that caused the fire and was the only one at the scene.”
It was an OPP officer who happened to be driving along Vanluven Road who first noticed the fire and attended the scene.
The male who suffered burns was transported to hospital before being airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dead is a 73 year old man.
OPP say it’s highly unlikely they’ll release his name, in an effort to protect the identity of the female victim.
The 49 year old female sustained minor injuries during the Tuesday morning altercation.
