Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

The Kingston men’s fastball championship final went to a 5th and deciding game…
and here’s what happened at Garrigan Park…

Top of the 3rd inning…Jamie Thompson delivers and so does Adam Smith—a shot that just gets over the head of the left-fielder…hustling around 3rd is Mike McNish–he will score on the play as Dig-N-Dirt jumps out to a 1-0 lead…

It stays that way till the 7th inning…Robert Boucher Photography have a man in scoring position…shortstop Jordan Thompson will get the force at 2nd base and this game is over…the double d’s hold on for a thrilling 1-0 victory—claiming the title as a first year team in the league.

“Tough series..every game was close, nail-biters as you can tell and it was right down to the final out tonight–its unbelievable–I cant believe we came this far ..its amazing

Needless to say, pitcher Brandon Sands was the star of the game with 14 strikeouts

Adam Smith/

“He was incredible..he said his pitches were jiving tonight ..he had the rise ball going and the drop was going crazy..everything was hitting the spot ..he had everything working–wherever I put the glove he hit it ..we got lucky a couple of times –a couple of missed pitches–other than that it was a great game.”

“He’s by far our best player ..every night he brings it ..he hits too but tonight he struggled a little bit but he was pitching great.”

It was a first year team and I asked Smith what makes it such a special squad…

“Well we all played junior men’s together last year and we just came together and put this men’s league team together and it feels really nice–a bunch of young guys coming in and taking it…we played hard all year ==we’ve got some good teams here ..we had a 5-game series before this one too so there’s a lot of good teams here…its fun ball and winning is winning.”
