Kingston City Hall was evacuated this morning.
Fire Prevention Week started with a fire drill at city hall. Followed by one at St. Lawrence Place on Ontario Street.
The exercise stresses the need to practice a home escape drill. Officials say we often do emergency drills in the workplace and school, but rarely at home.
The importance of working fire alarms is also being enforced. This year’s theme is “check the date”.
“All smoke alarms regardless of whether they are electrically operated or battery operated are to be replaced after ten years of service. So if you are looking at your smoke alarm and it doesn’t have a date, I suggest that you replace it.” – Paul Patry, Fire Prevention Officer, Kingston Fire & Rescue
