Three arrested in Belleville for drugs, weapons

An investigation of a Belleville man being chased by a group threatening him with baseball bats turned into a drug bust.

Police received the call about the chase on North Front Street just before 4 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived they located two of the suspects in a car on North Park Street.

Police say an open backpack in the vehicle had a large amount of marijuana inside.

The two people were arrested.

The third suspect approached on foot and was also taken into custody.

A second backpack containing pot, a large quantity of cash and baseball bats were found in the car.

The total amount of marijuana seized was about 400 grams, which has a street value of about $14,000.

Three males aged 17, 18 and 20 have been charged with drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and weapons dangerous.
