University womens hockey—the Queen’s Gaels open a new season on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre against the Nipissing Lakers from North Bay.

“Were really excited for Saturday night against Nipissing who beat us out last year so that adds to our excitement for the game..saturday night, 7.30, were ready to go….this years team has a lot of depth and experience with 9 4th year players and our rookies are excited and ready to go.”

University women’s hockey continues to grow and the skill level is second to none

“There are no easy teams in this league–every team brings it hard every game–some teams in different ways–some are hard and fast and always on you team…and others just bring there skill and force you to play your game against them…our league just keeps getting better and better but its means its getting harder and harder to score goals but our league is producing more and more players that continue to play on past the university level.”

If the Gaels hope to contend again this season they have to find a way to score more goals

“Yes, we definitely want to start the season off with some wins but one of our biggest things is scoring goals off the bat, I know last year we kind of struggled with that but this year we’ve been working a lot more on quicker releases and getting the puck to the net and crashing the net so I think this year were ready to score some more goals.”
