Homecoming weekend started with a big orange crush this afternoon.

A 1,400 pound pumpkin was lifted into the air – And dropped to the ground.

The annual “pumpkin smash” is a fundraiser that coincides with homecoming weekend.  Alumni and students gathered around to watch.

And some generously opened their wallets, as the gourd was turned into a squash !

“We’re doing this to raise awareness global development and Queen’s Engineering Without Borders as a chapter throughout Queen’s. So basically it’s just like to come together, raise awareness, raise money. Hopefully our goal this year is to raise 15 hundred dollars.”  – Karina Bland – Pumpkin Smash Organizer
