Santa Claus comes to Picton for annual parade

PICTON – After years of planning and months of construction work, Main Street in Picton has officially re-opened.
Robert Quaiff/Mayor of PEC:
“It’s like a very heavy weight being taken off your shoulders. I’m glad it’s finally completed.”
And right on time for this year’s Santa Claus Parade.
“The sidewalks are nice and wide. The streets really nice so it’s great that they could have it done on time.”
Dozens converged along the revamped street and watched in awe as all the usual favourites went by…from giant inflatable snowmen… to the big floats blaring catchy holiday jingles…
Then there were some stand out characters that really knew how to get the party started.
“I’m happy to be here today because I get to see things that I like.”
Some are drawn to the colourful lights and the wide array of different vehicles big and small…
While others were interested in something they can take with them.
“My favourite part of the parade is getting the candy because I can eat it all in one day.”
“Sometimes they throw out candy canes and I like that too.”
“I love seeing the very creative floats and I love getting the candy of course.”
Heather Senoran:
“The Picton Santa Claus Parade has been an annual tradition for more than 5 decades… making it the longest running Christmas parade in all of Prince Edward County.”
“You get to spend time with family.”
“It makes me feel happy and like I want it to be Christmas already.”
Well it can’t be Christmas until everyone’s favourite man in red comes to town.
“My favourite part of it is well when I get to see Santa.”
Don’t be fooled…There were a lot of red suits and white beards that made crowds do a double take.
Until finally Jolly ol’ St. Nick himself stole the show by bringing the North Pole to Main Street.
