For nearly two decades the C-P Holiday Train has been winding its way across the country entertaining people and helping out local charities.
This morning, the brightly decorated train stopped in Belleville.
Darryn Davis was there….
Several hundred people woke up early and braved the elements to see the CP Holiday train as it rolled in.
“Well we’re just bringing our Emerson to see the train here. the holiday train like to sing and dance.”
Even local politicians were on hand.
“This is a special time of the year for our kids our families for the food bank.”
Santa’s elves along with jolly old St Nick and Mrs. Claus made an appearance handing out treats to the children.
And with musical acts like Dallas Smith and the Odds everyone was moving to the music and staying warm, but a 7 thousand dollar donation from CP Rail to the food bank warmed the community’s heart.
“Everything that we raise in our communities as we travel along with this program stays in the community so food donations that have been brought to the show site stay right here and they go right here in Belleville”
The financial donation from CP Rail is one that the Gleaners food bank desperately needs right now.
“Sadly our freezer and fridge went down, they were both twelve years old and they went down within a month of each other so a portion of the money will go to that. That ensure’s that we can keep product fresh and frozen. ”
Father and son Paul and Sam are excited because they get to ride on the holiday train.
They won the ride because Sam’s hockey team raised 4700 food items for the food bank.
“I’m really looking forward to getting pictures and i really want to see the band. ”
Close to 16 hundred pounds of non perishable food items were donated by people coming to see the holiday train.
“The CP Holiday Train is also stopping in Trenton and Brighton as it makes it’s way to Vancouver over the next several weeks and by the time the train reaches vancouver the musical acts will have played 150 shows.
