KINGSTON – A local digital education company hosted a unique event tonight to get kids excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It was a packed room as Mimetics profiled their Jade Robot to about a dozen students. The Jade Robot includes bluetooth technology for wireless programming, sensors for driving by light and a spectrometer for gauging chemical composition of different surfaces. The tool is used by school boards across Ontario. The company says young girls are 10 times more likely to enroll in advanced science and mathematics after using the Jade Robot.
Myke Predko/ President and Chief Roboticist, Mimetics:
“The students we’ve got here… they’re going to be programming the robot. They’re going to be running programs to see how a robot behaves in the real world. They’re going to get a chance to do programming on scratch on the computers around the room and at the end we’re going to do a bit of robot art.”
