Marmora man fined $1,000 for animal cruelty

A Marmora man has been fined $1,000 after being found guilty in connection with the treatment of a squirrel.

The Ontario SPCA was called in August to a Marmora home to investigate a report of squirrel inside a live trap in full exposure to the sun.

Officials say the temperature that day was 29 Celsius.

The squirrel was taken to a vet, but it later died from severe dehydration.

Last week, Stanley Geertsma, 34 was found guilty in Belleville court on a charge of permitting distress to an animal.
