Kingston welcomes New Year’s Baby

Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

On New Years, when most of us were either celebrating or sleeping, little Henry Marx entered the world.

Simon & Kerri Marx/ Parents:
“We went from just being people — to… parents. We’re responsible for this little human.”

Simon and Kerri Marx say they are still in shock after giving birth to their little boy.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“It was a bit of a surprise, and our labour was a lot longer than we thought, so we were not expecting to have a New Year’s Baby. We were expecting to have our baby yesterday.”

But the new parents say they barely remember that time… when they look at Henry.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“As I keep looking at him, the labour doesn’t seem as bad as it was before. So, he’ll definitely get a sibling… but not for a while”

Henry was born two weeks early, at 3:45 am on January 1st. He was one of the first 2017 babies here in Kingston.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“I think it’s pretty cool! I didn’t expect it. You know, people made jokes when we first announced our pregnancy and our due date — ‘you’re going to have a New Year’s baby’. But, especially with your first, they say you’re always late… So, I was really surprised.”

This guy was definitely ready to meet the world. Henry came out at 8lbs, 6 oz, and a whopping 53 cms.

Kerri Marx:
“Thank goodness he came early. Because, imagine what he would weigh if he came two weeks later.”

The new parents say that he’s already got quite the attitude.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“Very Sassy… But, he was like that when he was in my belly too. He’s had a lot of personality.

The big guy is the couples first child.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“You know it’s happening but… when it actually happens, it’s like ‘Oh my god’. A, this is my baby, and B, we’re parents!”

So, what’s next for the little trio? They say they are taking it one day at a time.

Simon & Kerri Marx:
“Just enjoy this little guy.
Maybe another one? We’ll see.”
