Marissa Monette has been actively training in Capoeira Marital Arts for the past year.
As a former dancer, Monette says the Afro-Brazzillian, self-defense classes has introduced her up to a brand new community, given her confidence and a form of weekly exercise.
Marissa Monette – Capoeira Participant
“It’s always a positive experience walking out of that class feeling just really great about yourself feeling like you’ve accomplished something for that day and learning something new.”
Capoeria is just one of the many classes that will be offered for beginners at the Tett Centre this winter season.
Jean Kwanda – Capoeira Instructor
“It’s a very challenging and rewarding art-form that empowers people and gives them the tools to excel in life and take them to the next level.”
Trying something new in 2017 isn’t hard when you’re presented with so many options.
On upcoming Wednesdays Yassica Rivera-Belsham will host a unique drumming, dance and meditation class.
“It’s really a taste of different things. it’s for all abilities, all ages and for absolutely anybody.”
If dance is more your style and you’re looking to get out with your little one–dancer and instructor Sasha French has developed a fun and social class for new parents.
“I love to dance, that’s what i went to school for that’s what I’ve done my whole life. when I had a baby it made it a little more difficult to incorporate child care or around her schedule and so I thought it would be great if i could do both.”
Tess Clifford has been dancing with her son Hayden since his birth last May and says she recommends the class to every new mom she meets.
“I had no dance experience. I had no clue what I was doing. I was a little bit nervous if this would be a good fit for me. But it’s been so much fun, I really enjoy it.”
And if you’re looking to get the entire family out or hoping to get your kids creative juices flowing–the Tett Centre is open for art fun on P.A days and this upcoming Family Day.
“I think people can be really nervous to create and then when it does happen and they start to do things and they get some of that encouragement they always discover something and that’s really exciting.”
Registration is open for most winter session classes now with all relevant sign up information available online. These instructors all agree that trying something new is a chance to develop new passions while discovering something new about yourself.
