Shorelines Casino Belleville opened its doors to the public a few months earlier than expected.
Rod Baker/ President & CEO, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation:
“It is extra special though, to be opening a brand new green field property. It is a very rare event, in fact in the province of Ontario, it is the first new casino to open in almost 11 years. So, it’s a very significant event, and we are very proud to be apart of the process.”
It was exactly one year ago, that Great Canadian Gaming took over operating OLG’s casinos in the southeast Ontario region, including the Thousand Islands Casino and Kawartha Downs in Peterborough.
Their winning bid also included plans for a new gambling facility, which would ultimately be built in Belleville.
Ron Urquhart/ General Manager, Shorelines Casino Belleville:
” 450 slot machines, 18 live table games, we’ve got a full service buffet — built to spec with a beautiful deck that overlooks the outside area — so, in the summertime we will have the doors open. Lots of regular lighting in here, instead of can lights, we’ve got high ceilings, our Windward restaurant is another option, as well as our OTB — our off-track betting for horse racing… and we’ve got lots of other amenities as well, too”
One thing is clear, everyone involved in this casino is pushing to show the community how they’re different.
“we’re not just here to have live table games and slot machines.. We have something for everyone under one roof… We want to make sure we get out to everyone in Belleville and partner with everybody that we can and show what Shorelines Casino Belleville has to offer.
The casino employs 275 people!
250 of those people — are locals.
Jill Fanning/ Table Games Supervisor:
“We’ve been training, we’ve been working very, very hard. Our dealers have been phenomenal with little experience, or no experience the gaming industry… They have worked very, very hard to be here today.”
“Hundreds came flooding in as they opened their doors on Wednesday. Moving forward, Shorelines Casino Belleville is open 7 days a week, from 7am to 3am on weekdays and 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
