The city of Brockville’s search for a location to build a new twin-pad arena has come to an end.
The rink will be built on the same site as the Brockville memorial arena.
This, despite a strong push from the Downtown B-I-A to have it built somewhere in the downtown core.
There were two proposed sites – one near St. Vincent de Paul hospital – and another just west of the city, off highway 2.
Downtown officials are disappointed because of the potential foot traffic it would have brought to the area.
Meg Plooy: “Not only would it contribute to the economic growth, but I think it would lead to future growth and development for the city. We have a very large concentration of businesses downtown – nearly three hundred businesses. I think the economic impact that would have had for this businesses would have been tremendous.”
