Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for the Gord Downie Cancer Fund for Brain Cancer… all thanks to some pretty awesome Tragically Hip-themed Frontenac’s jerseys.
Two weeks ago, the Kingston Frontenac’s held a Tragically Hip night at the Rogers KRC. As part of the evening, they presented the Hip and one lucky fan with the specialty jerseys.
The rest of the jerseys were put up for auction, allowing everyone in the world to bid on them. That auction closed on Saturday, but not without going into overtime.
Justin Chenier with the Frontenacs says that bidding blew up in the final hours
Justin Chenier/ Kingston Frontenacs:
“Staggering the amount of support… but is it surprising?
Not really when you think about the amount of attention the Tragically Hip have garnered across Canada… Especially in the last, you know, 8 months when they announced Gord’s illness and their tour.
The neat thing is when you look at where the winning bids came from… people in Vancouver, people in Halifax, people in Kingston, and everywhere in between!
It was neat to see those jerseys command the attention of a country and there are people in Kingston that will be wearing or disolaying those jerseys… So that’s kind of cool!”
Chenier says they will announce the grand total raised in the coming days, which will be donated to the Brain Cancer Research
