Let the race begin. Nominations are now open for candidates in countryside district.
Residents in the rural Kingston district were left without a councillor, after Richard Allen resigned late last year.
The city has decided to hold a by-election in mid-May.
Monday marked the first official day of what promises to be a crowded campaign.
Three former countryside councillors have expressed an interest, but have not yet joined the race.
So far, two candidates have registered to run in the 3 month long campaign.
Karen Pagratis and Scott Burton filed their nomination papers.
Burton says it’s his first time running in a municipal election, pledging to bring new ideas to the campaign.
Scott Burton: “These are all valid issues, it’s just that these were the same issues. They were always the same – how will I go up to somebody’s door and knock on it and sell them an article of goods and say ‘believe in me’ and I have nothing new to say. I must conduct this campaign differently and end the outcome of this campaign differently.”
