The issues of student housing, binge drinking and excessive partying by university students was on the mayor’s agenda today.
He met with retired Queen’s professor Geoff Smith for about 30 minutes this morning.
Smith — who’s seen his own neighbourhood overtaken by these problems — says solutions will only be found if the city, residents, the university and students buy into finding solutions.
Smith says he’s also pleased to know council is looking at implementing a nuisance by-law.
“Best thing that came out of the meeting this morning was my feeling that the mayor is taking this very seriously and will be moving along with city council in the right direction. Again how one moves so quickly or so slowly remains to be seen but it at least it’s on the paper it’s on the table.”
