Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

KGH has declared a code orange and has set up a decontamination bay for patients arriving from the scene of the multi-vehicle crash and chemical spill on the 401 near Gananoque.

The crash happened during blizzard conditions at about 2 o’clock near the community of Landsdowne and involved about 30 vehicles, including about a dozen transports. One of the transports spilled thousands of litres of hazardous chemical.

19 patients are being brought to KGH from the scene of the crash and non-critical emergency patients are being re-routed to Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Hospital officials are asking the community to go to the Urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital and avoid the KGH emergency department for the time being unless they have serious/critical emergency care need.
