City meets to discuss how to spend casino earnings

Belleville – City councillors will meet tonight to decide how to spend the money they’re raking in from the new Shorelines Casino.

Staff is suggesting most of the money, 65% be put into an account that could pay for capital projects. Another 10% of revenues would be set aside for economic development and the rest would be divided into several accounts including vehicle replacement, infrastructure, land acquisition, non-profit social organisations and disaster contingencies.

Depending on the casino’s success, annual revenues from slot machines could be as high as $3,000,000.
