Stirling-Rawdon looks at switching badges

Stirling – Another community in our region is looking at switching badges. The township of Stirling-Rawdon has the distinction of being Ontario’s smallest police force. But the township is getting new financial¬†ammunition to consider dissolving the municipal force and bring in the OPP.

This comes after a report suggested the provincial force could take over policing the small community for 1.7 million dollars a year, including start-up costs.

The township’s policing budget is about 1.8 million with average increases of about 10% per year.

A public meeting is slated for Wednesday to discuss the costing estimate.

OPP officers would work out of the Central Hastings Detachment.
