Stirling – Another community in our region is looking at switching badges. The township of Stirling-Rawdon has the distinction of being Ontario’s smallest police force. But the township is getting new financial ammunition to consider dissolving the municipal force and bring in the OPP.
This comes after a report suggested the provincial force could take over policing the small community for 1.7 million dollars a year, including start-up costs.
The township’s policing budget is about 1.8 million with average increases of about 10% per year.
A public meeting is slated for Wednesday to discuss the costing estimate.
OPP officers would work out of the Central Hastings Detachment.
