The Ontario Chamber of Commerce is calling on the provincial government to rethink its cap and trade plan.
The legislation came into effect this year … but the chamber is concerned about the impact it will have on businesses.
The local chamber says many businesses are still trying to cope with rising energy costs while remaining competitive.
The business advocacy group says it still doesn’t have answers from the government on how businesses will be supported … as they try to reduce their carbon footprint.
“How are we going to see benefits by reducing our emissions, reducing our carbon foot print other than we’re paying less tax or cost for that, how are we going to be rewarded for the monies put into the program when we’re doing a good job in green energy, and that’s the question we have and we’re still looking to find answers on how that truly works.”
