A date has been set for the closure of one of Kingston’s homeless shelters.
The board of Ryandale shelter announced today the elm street facility will close for good on April 30th.
Two years ago — when the city launched its housing and homelessness plan — Ryandale was designated as an “emergency overflow shelter.”
The board notes that because of the plan’s success — Ryandale is no longer needed and the city is cutting funding to the 15 bed shelter.
Ryandale will continue to operate a seven bed transitional house on Victoria Street.
Katie Schutz: “Well, we do have – in gratitude to the community and Kingston at large, we do have an Open House scheduled for Thursday May 4th from 2-4 pm at our Elm Street location. We do welcome community partners and past residents or volunteers to come out and say goodbye.”
