Kingston Fronts donate $73 thousand to Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research

KINGSTON – A special ceremony took place tonight before the Frontenacs faced off against the Peterborough Petes. Dr. James Perry from Sunnybrook hospital was greeted with a thunderous applause. He’s one of the doctors involved in treating Gord Downie’s brain cancer. Perry was there to accept a cheque for over 73 thousand dollars. The fronts raised that money from the auction of unique Tragically Hip jerseys earlier this year. Gord Sinclair from the hip was also there to show his support.  Perry says Downie is still in Sunnybrook’s care but he has stopped treatment and is doing well.

Dr. James Perry/Cancer Researcher:
“So the first use of the funding has been to establish a Gord Downie Research Fellowship. A fellowship is a training period to become a brain tumour expert. So we’re going to grow from the grass roots and create more Canadian brain tumour experts which I think is fitting for the Hip and fitting for Gord.”
