Missing dog in Brockville goes viral

Brockville- “I think about him every minute of the day… I find that I can not sleep…”

It’s been 7-weeks since Irene Jowett’s dog Silas went missing.  Jowett was on vacation in Mexico with her husband when she learned her 3 year old chinese crested dog vanished.  Silas was staying with her son in Brockville’s east end.  He disappeared after being let out.

“At that point our vacation was over. I called the first airline that I could get a flight on home and we flew home the next day.”

For weeks Jowett knocked on doors, posted flyers offering a thousand dollar reward.  The family even created a “Find Silas” Facebook page.  Jowett believes someone has her dog… that’s why she decided to post an open letter on Kijiji.  Almost 5-thousand people have seen it – and it’s only been up for a day.  It’s going viral in Brockville… Jowett hopes whoever has Silas will see her ad and bring him back.

“Please understand that he’s cared for, hes adored but we just need him to come home and I hope that you can see it in your heart to approach us.”

“In addition to posting flyers the family also alerted the Ontario SPCA. Officials here say that’s a good first step but there’s more owners with lost pets can do.”

Marianne Carlyle/Animal Centre Manager, Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville
“Know what your municipalities has for bylaws. We’d also suggest calling their local vets or the vets in the area as well as getting posters and things up for pet stores.”

“He’s just a quiet boy, he likes his home and enjoys bed….”

Jowett is finding strength from other stories about pets being reunited with their owners after lengthy periods of time.  And while she appreciates the amount of people who have viewed and shared her ad – she’s hoping one of them will lead her to Silas.
