Petting Zoo supports Easter Seals Ontario

KINGSTON – Goats, sheep and bunnies — oh my.
The Fur, Feather and Fins Agriculture Petting Zoo had something for every animal lover — and it’s all for a good cause — Easter Seals Ontario…
Krista LeClair/Easter Seals Ontario:
“There are lots of families in the community with kids with disabilities. They require mobility equipment and communication devices.”
Something that Laura Patterson and her 3 year old son Bo know first hand.
The Easter Seals parent says Kingston isn’t as ‘barrier free’ as she’d like and it’s often a challenge to get around her with son.
Laura Patterson/Easter Seals Parent:
“Little things like the wider doorways or a one step up or in the parking lot, parking too close and not being able to open our door. That type of thing.”
While there are some challenges in her daily routine — she’s glad to see so many community members show their support.
Heather Senoran/Videographer:
“Money raised from this event will go towards the Easter Seals Week Campaign that kicks off on April 24th and airs here on CKWS. The goal is raise 70 thousand dollars which is just a portion of the overall annual fundraising goal.”
Fundraising efforts also help send kids to the fully accessible ‘Camp Merrywood.’
LeClair:
“It cost 25 hundred dollars to go to camp for 10 days so Easter Seals helps fund that. So events like this help raise those funds.”
Not only is the event raising money and awareness — many Kingstonians say it’s the perfect way to spend the long weekend — making new furry friends.
“The baby bunnies, the baby chicks and the baby sheep!”
“And I love that Kingston has a lot of charity organizations and they offer a lot of things to do in the city.”
“I like the baby bunnies because they’re really cute and fuzzy.”
The annual petting zoo fundraiser goes perfect with the Easter Seals motto — together, helping kids be kids.
