Protesters rally to fix Phoenix Pay System

Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

KINGSTON – Another day…another Phoenix rally… As thousands of civil servants remain frustrated about the flawed Phoenix Pay System. About a dozen people rallied outside MP Mark Gerretsen’s office this afternoon. While there is a temporary phoenix pay system office in downtown Kingston — these protesters say it isn’t doing anything to directly help local federal workers. Demonstrators say they will continue to protest every second Wednesday — which is the federal pay day — until Phoenix is fixed.

Catherine St-Georges/Public Service Alliance Canada:
“We have people here in Kingston that are on the verge of losing their homes. We have people that have taken on extra work and they haven’t been paid in almost a year for that. We have people that have been over-paid and their T4’s aren’t correct so they’re going to overpay on taxes. We have people that are going to lose child support payments and all kinds of other problems.”
