Queen’s cross country star Claire Sumner has been named OUA female athlete of the year..
she’s now in the running for the Jim Thompson trophy which goes to the top athlete in Canadian University sports…..
“Its quite an honour to be nominated for this award..I have to thank Queen’s and all the support they’ve given me this year and my coach Steve Boyd and my whole cross country team–the Queen’s cross country team..there a great support and I could’nt have done it without them and the support of my family–all my family and friends.”
It was a banner season for the Calgary native…she won the Queen’s Invitational…captured the Gold at the OUA championships—won the Gold medal at the nationals in Quebec City and along with teammate Julie Anne Stahlie, represented Queens and Canada at the world championships in Malaysia…
“It all came together this year..I’ve been doing this sport for about 6-years now but this year all the training paid off and I could’nt be happier…I’m so honoured to be able to represent Queen’s–cross country I find, especially in U-Sports is much more of a team effort than an indiviual effort ..I definitely could’nt have done it without the whole team behind me.”
