Gerretsen tours businesses to address NAFTA concerns
MP Mark Gerretsen is making stops at about a dozen Kingston businesses. hoping to make connections with business owners to help facilitate trade with the United States.

“What I’m hearing is that some businesses seem to be content and optimistically approaching the changes that may come and others seem to be quite worried about what’s going on.”

Worried over Donald Trump’s tough talk over NAFTA. The U-S president says he’ll have more to say about NAFTA negotiations in the coming weeks. Worrisome talk for local exporters, like Stephen Ginsberg, who runs an acrylic paint business.

“We deal so much with multiple distribution, multiple companies that have warehouses throughout the U.S. and Canada.”

Ginsberg says changing NAFTA seems like an almost impossible task.

“I just don’t think there’s any answer for them to implement anything other than the status-quo.”
Gerretsen’s 2 day business blitz included a stop at Bombardier’s Milhaven plant.

Mark Gerretsen:
“When the negotiations come up for NAFTA and Parliament starts to discuss it I’ll have real practical experience about what is happening here in my riding to bring to the table.”

Discussions that could begin in the next few weeks according to President Trump as his is administration considers the future of a free trade agreement that has linked the continent’s economies for over 20 years.
