More than 100 soldiers from CFB Kingston and cadets at royal military college were busy piling sand bags. There’s no flooding — yet. But cadets and solders spent the day stacking sandbags around federal property near the LaSalle Causeway.
The sandbags are protecting two buildings right behind the townhouses on Place d’Armes. Similar preventative work was done along the shoreline of the RMC campus. They say with the steady rise of Lake Ontario — and more rain in the forecast for this weekend –they’d rather be safe than sorry.
Cpt. Brandon Pinkney: “Some of the infrastructure we have is in lower spots. So there are a couple transformers we want to protect and keep the water out. A couple lift stations we want to keep functioning just so we keep everything operating normally. Past that it’s just the normal water damage you might see inside any building.”
