Flooding causes one week delay in Rideau Canal navigation season

Flooding on inland lakes and streams has forced a one week delay of the start of the Rideau Canal navigation season.

Parks Canada says high water levels and flows have led to unsafe boating conditions on both Rideau Canal and Trent-Severn Waterway.

They will be closed to all boat traffic and other forms of water-based activities are also discouraged to prevent further shoreline erosion.

It’s hoped the canal systems will be open on May 26.
