Amherstview man charged after disruption on Jamaica to Toronto flight

An Amherstview man is facing charges in the U.S. after allegedly trying to open the door on an Air Canada flight from Jamaica to Toronto.

The man is also alleged to have made threats against members of the crew.

It happened on Monday.

After the man was subdued and restrained by passengers and flight crew members the plane landed in Orlando, Florida where he was taken into custody by the FBI and charged.

The accused has been identified as Brandon Cournyea, 33.

Charges against him include assault or intimidation of flight crew members and interfering with their duties.

His wife, Amanda Cournyea, who was at home in Amherstview at the time, had posted a handwritten sign on her door stating she knows nothing about the incident and asks that she be left alone.
