Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

The Regiopolis Senior Panthers won the KASSAA Girls Soccer Championship game at Richardson Stadium

The girls final had Regiopolis against Holy Cross… in the first half—Chloe Cabral outraces a couple of defenders and beats Crusader’s goalkepper Jackie Van Herpt….and the lady Panthers grab a 1-0 lead….

In the 2nd half, the girls in green and white get the equalizer…..that’s Claudia Murphy pushing the ball past Rachel Derosiers…its 1-1—with overtime looming….

but a foul in the box with 3 minutes left to play gives Regi a penalty-kick and Bella Meban-De-Groot makes no mistake… it would be the winning goal..the panthers prevail 2-1…capturing the Steve Mantle Memorial Trophy for the 2nd year in a row…

“I think its pretty incredible–we’ve played strong all year and we came through together to win this over Holy Cross which is a very good team as well but we just sticked together and put our best foot forward–gave it a 100 per cent effort and that’s what it takes to win a game.”

“Everybody came out and played their hardest–put in their best effort and that’s all we can ask for–play as hard as we can and luckily it worked out for us–Holy Cross is a very good team to play and it was very close but obviously we were able to come through and were off to OFSAA.”

“I have to hand a lot to our coach Abel Almeida–he’s been here for 9 years and he stuck with us..he makes every practise and he’s just so dedicated–we would’nt be able to do it without him.”
