Kingston’s unemployment rate drops, national average goes up

Kingston’s unemployment rate has taken another drop.

Statistics Canada reports the local jobless rate was 5.5 percent in May.

That’s down three-tenths of a percentage point from April.

Nationally, last month the unemployment rose by one-tenth of a point to 6.6 percent.

That’s despite adding more than 54,000 jobs.

Stats Canada says the jump nationally is due to more people looking for work.
