A glimmer of hope tonight for those fighting to keep a Belleville high school open.
This week, public trustees with Hastings-Prince Edward school board met to go over final staff recommendations from its accommodation review process.
In a surprise move, they rejected a recommendation to close “Moira Secondary School” next June… and send the students to Quinte Secondary School.
Instead — trustees moved to change the attendance boundaries.
It means student shuffling.
some students at Quinte Secondary would be transferred to Moira — allowing the board to look at building a new high school to replace Quinte.
This is all pending a final vote by trustees this coming Monday.
“The number one recommendation is that we would hopefully go to the Ministry of Education and receive approval for funding to build a nice new learning environment for our secondary students in Belleville and that would be in the east end of Belleville and that is part of the recommendation.”
