Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

KINGSTON – After the ‘Red and White People Parade’ a big crowd gathered on the steps of city hall for the annual Civic Awards ceremony where some outstanding Kingstonians were honoured. Five civilians received awards for their hard work within the community through volunteer efforts. The Mayor presented the awards and discussed how each recipient made a difference –whether it be through cancer fundraising, athletics for youth, crisis assistance, history, or the joy of music. As a special Canada day 150 treat, the youth volunteerism award recipients also received a scholarship monetary prize.

Erin Peterson/Award Recipient for Youth Volunteerism:
“I’m part of a an anti-bullying campaign with my school. I held a financial literacy conference for grades 6-8 — among other things. I feel really good about it. I worked really hard to do these things and it’s nice to get the validation for it.”
