UPDATED: Toronto-man charged with attempted murder after ‘serious incident’ at Napanee Park

Napanee OPP say they are still investigating after a serious domestic attack in Springside Park.  At around 6am Thursday. The victim, a 35 year old woman, called 911 for help after escaping the area.

“The woman was located actually downtown and was taken to hospital by paramedics.” Cst. Juliane Porritt, said. “She was able to give us the name and a description of her attacker.”

The attacker: her husband.

The 35 year old Toronto man was located in Springside Park shortly after and arrested.

“The investigation has been ongoing all day — the Napanee Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Services have been at the park collecting evidence.” Cst. Porritt said

A video sent in by a viewer, shows an SUV being towed from the scene and officers investigating.

The male suspect is facing a number of charges, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, and arson disregard for human life.

Additionally, he has been charged with “Counseling indictable offence which is not committed”. Which happens when someone attempts to persuade another individual into committing a crime. Police were not able to say if anyone else was involved.

“It’s all part of the investigation at this point, I can’t disclose anymore then that.” Cst. Juliane Porritt said

The scene is being held and the incident is continuing to be investigated by police. Cst. Porritt says crimes like these are tough to see.

“It is very hard, we see a lot of tragedy as OPP officers — and this morning, dealing with a woman who has serious injuries that are caused by her partner… it’s sad.”

The name of the suspect is not being released in order to protect the victim… who has been released from hospital.

The man — was denied bail and will appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice next week.
