Belleville Teen found dead on trip to Cuba

Sad news out of Belleville – after a high school student was found dead on a graduation trip in Cuba.

18 year old Alex Sagriff was found dead while vacationing in Varadero, Cuba.

The student at St. Theresa catholic secondary school in Belleville had been part of a graduation trip organized by S-trip a company out of Toronto which specializes in graduation trips.

There’s no word on the cause death at this time.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore District Catholic School Boardv issued the following statement when contacted by CKWS-TV.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the community of St. Theresa Catholic school is deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of Alex Sagriff. 

The school principal, vice-principal and staff, as well as the Board bereavement and crisis response team have been on site at St. Theresa Catholic School to support students and staff. 

The well-being of our students and staff is and continues to be a priority. The Board response team will continue to be at the school over the next several days, and in collaboration with our community partners, information for accessing community supports has and will continue to be made available to students, parents and staff.
