Kingston Colts ready for Little League Intermediate Championship

Kingston, ON, Canada / CKWS TV

The Kingston Colts are hosting the Provincial Little League Intermediate Championship starting Wednesday.  The locals will face East Nepean in the best of three affair with the winner advancing to the Canadian Finals.

Ken Spicer/Colts Manager
“We’ve got to take this one inning at a time — and hopefully after inning 7 we’re up by a bunch of runs or we’re competing to win — if we take game one then we focus on game 2.  Obviously in the back of everybody’s mind is to jump on a plane next Tuesday and fly to Langley B.C. and compete for the Canadian Intermediate Little League Championships and hopefully go on to the worlds.”

But first things first for the Colts — and that’s the East Nepean Eagles Wednesday night.

Ken Spicer/Colts Manager
“I saw them play Ottawa West last week — I went and watched the last game of their series — they’re solid, they run the bases, they’ve got a couple of kids that can hit — but ultimately we have a team that’s going to match-up pretty well with them I think.” Jacob Murphy/Colts Pitcher

“If our whole team stays focused and we do what we do best and play our game — I think we have a good chance of winning.”

That’s right-hander Jacob Murphy — he gets the nod in game 1.  He says the team’s ready to go — in fact — it can’t wait.

Jacob Murphy/Starting Pitcher
“Our team is a very good team together.

We all get along, we all focus together, we work really well together, we have good catching, good pitching, good bats — I think we’re a complete team and I think we’re ready to play.”

Ken Spicer/Colts Manager
“We’ve practised a lot — we’ve worked on a lot of set plays — kids listen very well, we’ve put the ball in play when we have played and it’s been great.  We’ve played a lot of junior teams — so everyone we’ve played have been older — so we’ve played some O.B.A. teams, we’ve played some teams from Ottawa — we’ve pretty excited about this now, so we’re finally going to get the kids to play some kids their own age.”

Hosting the provincial final is obviously huge.  Now it’s just a case of using that home field to the Colts advantage.

Jacob Murphy/Starting Pitcher
“Yeah home field advantage is really good — we’ve got a bunch of people coming — a big crowd.
I like to be on home field, we’re used to playing on this field –we’ve practised here a lot and yeah I think that’s good that we’re here on home field.”
