Jay Westman
CKWS News Director
First Media Job: Part-time reporter at CJOH TV in Ottawa. From there, MCTV in Timmins, Ontario.
Favourite CKWS Moment: Helping the Kingston Police Cold Case Squad make an arrest in the 8-year old hit and run of Margaret Graham. Someone called in a tip to Crimestoppers after watching a story we did as part of ‘the Cold Case Files’ Series. It just proves what local News can do to serve the community.
About the Station: CKWS is a unique place to work, as part of Corus Kingston, we work together with two radio stations. It means that the News we produce here is not only seen , but heard by people all day- all around region. By covering such a wide area (from Prescott to Trenton, and North to Smiths Falls), we also get great insight into what makes each community different- and also the same in some ways.
About Kingston: I grew up in Peterborough, but have called Vancouver, Ottawa, and Timmins home at one time or another. Kingston is a great example of a very Canadian city. It has a waterfront that reminds me of Vancouver, the nearby wilderness of Timmins, and a few Ottawa-style bureaucrats… but the hockey is definitely better here.
