WITH THE LAST LONG WEEKEND OF THE SUMMER NOW UNDERWAY, MANY KIDS ARE THINKING AHEAD TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR. FOR SOME KIDS IN NAPANEE - THE NEW SEMESTER ALSO MEANS A BRAND NEW SCHOOL. SOUTH VIEW PUBLIC SCHOOL OPENED ITS DOORS TONIGHT TO GIVE FAMILIES A LOOK AT THE NEW FACILITY. NEWSWATCH'S PAUL SOUCY HAS MORE.
WELCOME TO SOUTH VIEW PUBLIC SCHOOL -- WHICH WILL OFFICIALLY OPEN ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME TUESDAY MORNING.
"South View will have 600 students, maybe a few more than that when we first open. It's a combination of HH Langford Public School and Westdale Park Public School."
THAT MEANS THESE STUDENTS WILL HAVE BRAND NEW CLASSMATES TO GO ALONG WITH THE ONES THEY'VE ALREADY GOTTEN TO KNOW.
"I think it's also a great opportunity to bond with new kids that you haven't met before - building new friendships. I think it's just a great thing to have."
"Because I like to meet new people. I like to learn about them and stuff."
AND ALONG WITH NEW CLASSMATES -- NEW LEARNING TOOLS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE FOR KIDS TO USE.
"I like playing games on the computers...well in computer time sometimes."
"At Langford we had four smart boards, but there were about twelve classes. So you'd be lucky to have a smart board in your class, and at westdale as well they only had a few that went around. Now here at Southview, every classroom will have a smart board."
WHEN THESE BOARDS GET SWITCHED ON FOR THE FIRST TIME TUESDAY -- THEY'LL BE A FAMILIAR SIGHT TO THE CHILDREN WHO GOT AN EARLY LOOK -- WELL BEFORE THE BELL RINGS.
